It’s been almost seven years since I’ve been able to be a guest at a wedding (wedding photographer problems lol). In fact I believe my own wedding was the last time I’ve attended a wedding lol. On Saturday my hubby and I attended our friend Blu’s wedding at Sugarland in Arena, Wisconsin. The couple said their i do’s under the big oak tree in the center court-yard. It was perfect! I’ve been to several barn weddings over the years and Sugarland Barn is definitely one of the most beautiful rustic barn wedding venues I’ve seen yet.
As a photographer I was drooling a bit over the three-story restored barn from the 1800’s with its gorgeous windows, allowing for that all that yummy natural light to flood in. Huge rustic industrial chandeliers hanging from the rafters, floor to ceiling barn wood filled the space, outdoor cafe lights and fire pits decorated the patio just outside the barn. Sugarland barn is surrounded by 40 acres of beautiful meadows, tall grassy fields & majestic old trees spread throughout the property. The guesthouse looks like a southern plantation like you see in the movies. My heart was a pitter-pattering over all the beauty. I hope to return to Sugarland to shoot a wedding someday… I know I could create some amazing images there! But I was a good girl and left my camera at home this time so I could just be part of the guest experience but of course I couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots with my phone :).
Not only is the venue spectacular but so was the Sugarland staff. They were super friendly and willing to help and didn’t miss a beat when it came time to serve everyone. Don’t even get me started on the food, it was fantastic! Hubby and I had pork loin with baby reds with rosemary and steamed vegetable medley, yum yum. Because I knew we’d be partying it up, I worked out really hard this week so I indulged a bit. So of course I couldn’t just let the little cupcakes sitting on the barn wood table be left all alone… after all not eating a cupcake at a wedding is a crime, I’m pretty sure of it! And I’m not a criminal so I enjoyed a cupcake or two ;). As a wedding favor we were given the sweetest little white bird salt and pepper shakers. Love love love!
Our ride home got a little scary for us once we hit the Madison area, there was a huge hail storm and the weather alert on the radio said it was headed in the same direction we were. So we decided to pull over for the night in Beaver Dam. We finished off our lovely evening snuggling and falling asleep to the thunder and lightning hail storm outside our window, the perfect way to end the night. All and all I had a blast drinking, laughing, and dancing with my hubby. We even made new friends and I can’t wait to have them over for game night :)! Congrats Blu & Steve, I wish you much happiness and thank you for inviting us to your beautiful Sugarland wedding! xo
