Hubby and I headed off on Thursday for our Door County Weekend! My dear clients and friends Trisha + Erich were so kind and gave us a gift certificate to any b&b in Wisconsin. So we picked Eagle Harbor Inn in Ephraim Door County. We have never been to Ephraim or Door County in the summer, we typically go in the fall so this time we wanted to experience Door County in the summer time :). We had such an amazing time. We took the cooper up to Door County and started off to our first favorite stop Wild Tomato. We found Wild Tomato a few years back and we just adore it! They have such amazing firestone pizzas and a huge selection of fanciful beers. So we ordered a couple of small pizzas and enjoyed some delicious pizza and a couple cocktails. It was incredible as usual. After filling up at our favorite pizza joint we checked into our room at Eagle Harbor Inn and got settled. We decided to walk down to the local beach and do some swimming, reading and relaxing. I finished one of my summer reads “The Fault In Our Stars“. Which by the way was one of the best books I’ve read and it is also the first book I’ve ever read before seeing the movie. (Ok you can stop laughing lol) I can’t wait to see the movie!
The rest of our evening we chilled out with a couple glasses of wine and made it an early night. 7am came a lot sooner than expected but we were well rested for our first time adventure for the day, kayaking :)! We drove into Fish Creek and checked in with the amazing crew at Door County Kayaking Tours. Our tour guides name was Keith and he was super fun and helped us along the way. We jumped on a big O’l shuttle bus lovingly called Grandma and headed to the far end of the peninsula up by Gill Rock. We launched out into the bay and spent several hours rowing around the shoreline checking out the hieroglyphs and cool rock formations along the bluffs. While we were out we also saw a couple of bald eagles which was so cool! I was having withdrawals not having my phone because I wanted to take some photos but they told us to leave them in the car! aaaahh! So needless to say the eagle images are only floating around in my mind, no images but I promise I’m not making it up lol. Kayaking was so so cool and we are now thinking about getting some of our own. It’s a hobby I could totally see getting into :)! After kayaking we stopped back to the room to freshen up and get ready for the rest of our day when I was greeted by Bambi outside our window. A baby fawn was eating off some branches just outside our window and her momma hung just a little ways ahead waiting patiently for her baby. They were so cute :).
Speaking of cuteness we grabbed some lunch in Sister Bay at Door County Creamery where some baby goats were hanging outside the restaurant. They were taking a little nap so I couldn’t resist especially after going camera-less for four hours :).lol We ordered up one of their combo meat and cheese boards with hand-crafted cheeses from their nearby local goat farm :). It was so delicious! The Creamery is now on one of our top favorite new places in Door County!
This little weekend of ours was filled with a lot of firsts, first time in Ephraim, first summer in Door County, first time at Eagle Harbor Inn, kayaking, The Creamery, Husby’s, The Muddy Udders and lastly a good ol fashion fish boil at Pelletiers in Fish Creek! Hubby and I have never done a fish boil and to be honest the idea of boiled fish didn’t sound all that appetizing but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the meal delicious but the process was really cool to watch. After our fish boil experience we went to listen to some live music and again a first, we saw The Muddy Udders a super cool band from the Green Bay area. I’ll surely be checking them out again. All and all we had an amazing new Ephraim Door County summer experience filled with new sites, sounds and amazing food oh and checked off a bunch of good stuff on our 2014 Summer Bucket List! Hope your weekend was full of a little awesome too :)! xo- laurie marie
